Is Wi-Fi HaLow the same as Wi-Fi 6?
No. Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) operates on 2.4/5 GHz and is optimized for high throughput in dense environments. Wi-Fi HaLow (802.11ah) runs on 900 MHz and is purpose-built for long range, low power, and massive IoT device scale. They solve fundamentally different problems but are complimentary in many deployments.
Can HaLow and Wi-Fi 6 co-exist on the same network?
Yes. The PC64 Edge AI supports both simultaneously. High-bandwidth devices (laptops, displays) use Wi-Fi 6, while sensors, kiosks, and IoT endpoints use HaLow, all managed from the same Pronto Cloud Controller dashboard.
How many devices can a single HaLow AP support?
The 802.11ah standard supports up to 8,192 associated devices per access point. In practice, Pronto deployments comfortably handle thousands of concurrent endpoints without throughput degradation for sensor-class workloads.
Does HaLow work with existing IoT sensors?
HaLow requires 802.11ah-compatible endpoints. However, many sensor manufacturers are now shipping HaLow-native modules. Pronto’s team can advise on compatible hardware for your specific vertical and use case. Pronto even offers products that can plug in convert your current non Halow clients into Halow clients.
How is HaLow different from LoRaWAN or Zigbee?
Unlike LoRaWAN or Zigbee, HaLow is a full IP-based standard. Every device gets its own IP address and integrates natively with existing Wi-Fi infrastructure and cloud platforms. No proprietary gateways or protocol translation layers are required.
What does deployment look like in practice?
